The Ujamaa Collective is a non-profit organization of women of African descent who are entrepreneurs, artisans, artists and individuals who are committed to serving their community through leadership. Through Ujamaa, artisans will have an economic outlet for their work, micro-enterprises will have the support to grow, customers will gain access to locally-produced items, and Pittsburgh will have a regional destination to draw customers and visitors to the Historic Hill District.

Ujamaa Collective is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization founded with a social mission to create spaces, opportunities, networks, education and support for Africana women to grow as entrepreneurs, artisans,
and servant-leaders so that we may "lift as we climb."

We are accomplishing this through our Hill District based artisan boutique, open-air marketplace events, agricultural incubator and cooperative business support provided to our members and partners based locally, regionally and globally.

Through placemaking, cooperative strategies, community and economic development, Ujamaa's vision is to create sustainable neighborhoods and communities that are healthy and economically vibrant for people of African descent.

In late 2014, Ujamaa Collective launched the Cooperation Over Competition Campaign, with support of the Global Switchboard, to continue building a foundation for community and economic development for the network of artists and consumers we support through our programming.
