The Ujamaa Collective is a non-profit organization of women of African descent who are entrepreneurs, artisans, artists and individuals who are committed to serving their community through leadership. Through Ujamaa, artisans will have an economic outlet for their work, micro-enterprises will have the support to grow, customers will gain access to locally-produced items, and Pittsburgh will have a regional destination to draw customers and visitors to the Historic Hill District.

Ujamaa Collective strives to promote small business ownership, particularly among African American women, advancing their self-sufficiency, entrepreneurial and creative outlet needs.

Consumer/Community Cooperative Membership is available to anyone, regardless of background, income or residence. Ujamaa Collective has launched the Cooperation Over Competition Campaign to promote the importance of community investment for those in our local network to help advance our common interest goals of building a new, solidarity economy.

By investing $100 in cooperation with our collective, community supporters will obtain a membership card and save 5% on every purchase in Ujamaa Collective's boutique and marketplace events, as well as discounts on art/craft class fees. Members will receive exclusive savings throughout the year and have priority options on new designer and artisan merchandise.

Cooperative economics empowers us all to seed and strengthen the enterprises that bring the quality products and services we'd like to see made available in our local community. It's a win-win situation!
Join us and become a part of a cooperative network that helps to create a vibrant community, socially and economically, bolstering the people and products that offer a fair exchange of value.

Become a community co-op member anytime by clicking here. Your membership card and accompanying information can be sent via U.S. postal mail or can be picked up in Ujamaa's Boutique.

Your membership in the Ujamaa Collective supports the development of a local economy in the Hill District and the expansion of Black-owned businesses in the South Western Pennsylvania Region, particularly women. It provides a forum for Ujamaa members, both artists and customers, to offer encouragement and support to one another and to create a new standard of excellence in creativity and enterprise.
